Marble is a natural stone that is generally used in homes and offices to give them a decent look. Marble tiles can be used for the backsplash, facades and as decorative wall cladding other than flooring. If you wish to want durable marble then use high-quality marbles as high-quality marbles are made from fine materials.

It's recommended to check the quality of marble you are buying, there are various methods for checking the quality of marble. As a homeowner or an office owner it's your duty to check the quality before buying. Below is some ways mention which will help you to have an idea of the quality of marble. Marble flooring gives an elegant and expensive look to your house.

Methods to check Quality of Marble at Site

1. Check the color, size, and quality of all the pieces as mentioned.

2. Make sure that one side of the marble should be polished and all four sides should be machine cut.

3. Check the marble should be straight and have the same thickness from all sides. If you buy a marble with uniform thickness it may result in uneven flooring.

4. Most people only check the front side of the marbles, you should avoid this mistake you should check both the sides of the marbles. If you find any marble with wire-mesh attached to it then It's better to avoid.

5. If you wish to know the quality of marble after polishing. You can check by Splashing water on an unpolished marble surface, it should give a similar look after polishing.

6. Poor quality of marbles can easily be checked just by putting marble’s surface under light at a 45-degree angle, if you notice any dullness and patches on the surface then it is the symbol of poor quality. This dullness occurs due to cracks filled with the chips, these types of marbles are not good for use in heavy traffic areas.

7. While buying the marbles it's better to check the veins on the surface of marbles. Sometimes there are some unseen small cracks on the marble surface. Marbles that have small cracks are best to be used in low-traffic areas. If you see wide cracks on marbles then it is not good-quality marble, you should avoid buying those.

8. It's better to scratch the marbles before buying as this will let you know if there are any artificial colors are used in marbles or not. If someone resists you scratching the marbles then probably the marbles are made using artificial colors which can fade after installation.

9. You can check the porosity of marbles by dropping 3-4 droplets of citric acid on the surface of marbles. In case the marble absorbs lemon juice(citric acid) quickly that means the marble has high porosity therefore it is not a good choice to buy those marbles.

10. Pure marbles have similar thicknesses from all sides. If the marble does not have a similar thickness from all sides then it is not a good quality marble, it can break or crack easily.

The above mentioned are the same basic ways to check the quality of marbles, there are various laboratory tests also available like water absorption, dimensions, scale hardness, chemical resistance, etc.
